Strange characters on the screen? The game freezes? The contacts of the Game Boy / game cartridges were susceptible to dirt but of course Nintendo had a solution for this. The Game Boy Cleaning Kit was a little helper that gently cleaned the contacts of the game cartridges.
The cleaning kit (DMG-08) had the shape of a game cartridge and was inserted into the slot of the game cartridges / the console. A plastic stick with cleaning pads on both sides freed the contacts from dirt. Replacement pads were included with the set.
